We are independent, we work from documents rather than briefings, and we cover the Medway towns: Chatham, Gillingham, Rochester, Strood and Rainham, together with Cuxton, Halling and the villages out on the Hoo peninsula.
Why we are here
A single unitary council covering five towns produces a great deal of paper, and hardly any of it is read by the people it affects. Our job is to read it and to turn it into something useful in a couple of minutes. The other half of the job is quieter: keeping the practical local pages right, because a wrong bin date costs somebody a fortnight.
How we report
Everything begins with a named source. Medway Council’s committee papers and newsroom, the planning register, police.uk crime data, Food Standards Agency inspections, The Gazette and the rest of the public record. We link to that source on every fact, so you can check us rather than trust us. Where a record is unclear we say it is unclear instead of filling the gap, and we write in plain British English.
Tips and corrections
Residents notice things first. If something is going on where you live, or we have a detail wrong, email hello@medwaylive.co.uk. Corrections go up quickly and we note them on the page.
